Profile

Associate Professor Santosh Sanagapalli is passionate about the care of patients with the spectrum of upper and lower gastrointestinal disorders.

He is an internationally recognised expert in oesophageal disorders and gastrointestinal motility. He enjoys a busy practice seeing not only local patients with the breadth of GI disorders, but also patients with complex issues who travel to see him from across Australia.

Associate Professor Sanagapalli views Gastroenterology as a dynamic and constantly evolving specialty, and is interested in new ideas and approaches to helping patients regain their gut health. He has already been responsible for several innovations and advances in the specialty.

At the heart of his practice is his belief in a truly patient-centred approach where his focus is on establishing patient’s health goals and then delivering a plan to achieve them in collaborative manner.

Qualifications and experience:

  • MBBS, BSc (UNSW)
  • Specialty training in Gastroenterology (FRACP), Sydney
  • Clinical Research Fellowship (Gastrointestinal Physiology): University College London Hospital, UK
  • PhD (University of Sydney)
  • GESA certification in colonoscopy and upper endoscopy

Procedures offered:
Aside from diagnostic upper endoscopy and colonoscopy with polypectomy, he is also skilled in performing therapeutic procedures including haemorrhoid band ligation, endoscopic mucosal resection of GI tumours, GI stricture dilatation, endoscopic achalasia therapy, as well as endoscopic injection and ablative therapies.

  • New diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g. bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, pain)
  • Reflux and swallowing disorders, including novel endoscopic therapies
  • High quality screening and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy
  • Dietary and other non-medical therapy of GI disorders
